Player ratings after Walsall take play-off advantage
Walsall got the better of Chesterfield in the first leg of their two-match play-off clash - here are the player ratings.
Tommy Simkin
The keeper produced a wonderful save in the first half to deny Ryan Colclough when the score was still 0-0.
Super: 9
Liam Gordon
He was the player fouled for the Walsall penalty, he made the second goal as he skinned the full-back and put a menacing ball into the area.
Electric: 9
Taylor Allen
Scored his 11th goal of the season in Derbyshire. Calmly converted from the spot, and he was an assured presence all afternoon at the back.
Assured: 9
Harry Williams
The Saddlers were forced to defend on multiple occasions in the clash, and Williams got his head to plenty at the back.
Presence: 7
David Okagbue
He and Asiimwe were up against the tricky Colclough, who gave them a difficult time in the first half. Was excellent after the interval.
Solid: 7
Nathan Asiimwe
Like Liam Gordon he is electric going forward, a few tricky moments going the other way, but was a big threat on the right.
Good: 7
Ryan Stirk
There was lots of work for Walsall to do without the ball throughout the 90 minutes, and Stirk was up to the task.
Worked: 7
Alfie Chang
First senior goal for Chang, and what a finish it was too. He thumped it into the back of the net. He was excellent in possession.
Super: 9
George Hall
Could have scored inside four seconds when his shot was saved. Not a great deal to feed off from an attacking perspective, but put in a great shift.
Tried hard: 7
Jamie Jellis
Similar to Hall. A physical presence always putting the defenders under pressure, but did not have too many looks at goal.
Resilient: 7
Jamille Matt
The tall figure was up against Callum McFadzean, who is a big centre-back, but put in a good shift until he ran out of steam.
Gave everything: 7
