Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Rayan Ait-Nouri both missed glorious chances when the game was locked at 0-0, before Kevin De Bruyne notched the winning goal for Manchester City.

It ended Wolves' remarkable streak but the skipper says the players can take a lot from their slim defeat.

“We had two good chances to score but we couldn't score," Semedo said.

"But I think we left this stadium with a good sensation. I think everybody gave everything of themselves, and I'm very proud of my team, and I think if we keep going this way, we’re going to do great things in the future.

“With Vitor arriving, we had a change, and the change was good. Also, we had the players that came to help. Agba came to help a lot, Munetsi, Nasser who is not playing that much, but he's helping us a lot on training. All of that together make us stronger.

“Also, the connection we have with the fans now, it makes us even stronger. Also, the way that Vitor wants to play every single game, he makes us better and we’ve proved prove it.”

Wolves now have three games left this season, with a trip to Crystal Palace sandwiched by home clashes against Brighton and Brentford, and Semedo is eager to end the campaign on a high.

He added: “We want to finish the season in the right way. We have two games at home and one away, and we're going to go for it.

"We had six in a row winning and seven unbeaten. Today unfortunately we couldn't carry on with that level, but we have a lot of positive things to take from this game, and we're going to chase the three wins in the next three games.

“It was a tough season, but we're enjoying it now.

"We didn't start well – when Vitor came in we had nine points. We knew that we were not doing well, but we also knew that we had quality to do better, and that's what we're doing now.

"We didn't win today, but we showed team spirit, we showed quality. We have a lot of a lot of positive things to take from this game, and we have a bright future in front of us.”
