George Hall scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for the Saddlers over local rivals Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.
Walsall were on the cusp of automatic promotion with the final whistle poised when news broke of events at Valley Parade.
It was the news Walsall fans had been dreading, as Bradford City pipped them to the post in the most dramatic of styles with a late winner against Fleetwood Town.
Sadler was left speechless at the final whistle.
"No [I can't put it into words]," a sombre Sadler said. "My ears were pricked to the crowd the whole game. There only needed to be one moment and you know over there that they'd be throwing the kitchen sink at it.
