St Peter's Church under-11 boys' team are through to the national final of England Schools' Football Association tournament, which will be played at Stoke City's bet365 Stadium.

And they will take to the turf at the 30,000-seater home of the Potters on Friday, May 16, in a bid to bring the trophy back to Hixon.

St Peter’s teacher Steve Smallwood said: “We are extremely proud of the boys representing the Midlands at such a prestigious event.

"Being a small village school, it is incredible that we have achieved this level of success.

"In the past the school has reached the regional finals, so to go one step closer and progress to nationals this year is a phenomenal achievement and something I know they will remember for a very long time.”

The team of nine Year 6 boys started their incredible journey in November where they have progressed all the way to the final of 24 sides from across the country.

So far, the boys have won the district competition, represented Stafford in the County Cup and Staffordshire in the regional tournament, which included teams from Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and Humberside before being crowned Midlands champions.
