Reigning champions Fordhouses open new season with victory
Reigning champions Fordhouses opened the new South Staffordshire County League with home victory over Penkridge by five wickets.
Penkridge opened with the bat, as Amaan Hassan scored 52 and Will James added 44 from 61 balls, before they were eventually bowled out for 195.
Fordhouses produced a rousing response with Saqib Akbar posting 50 and Michael Gallear hitting 43 to put the hosts in the driving seat.
Adam Peat completed the win with 20 runs from 25 balls to help Fordhouses collect maximum points.
Milford Hall, who finished second last season, got their season underway with a disappointing defeat at Tamworth.
Batting first, Milford posted a score of 219-8 from their 50 overs, as Will Davis top scored with 68 and Clark Haddrell made 41 to help them recover from 122-7. Opener Jordan Bulpitt had earlier struck 29.
Chris Dean picked up two early wickets in the Tamworth response and Milford started strongly, with the hosts initially at 92-5.
However, George Baker totted up 65 runs and Luke Van Zyl weighed in with 58 from 60 balls to propel Tamworth to victory by three wickets.
Wombourne cruised to a resounding home victory over Walsall after winning by 174 runs.
Michael Hill brought up his century for Wombourne with an excellent 109, before Nathan Howell made 70 from just 40 balls to help his side finish with a commanding score of 307/8.
William Mashinge high-scored for Walsall with 46 but they were bowled out for 133, as Charlie Walker and Ben Thomas took four wickets each for Wombourne.
Meanwhile, Hammerwich opened with a convincing success at Pelsall after easing to a 148-run win.
Tom Wright, Abdul Qadir and Sajid Ahmadzai each hit 38 runs apiece before Hammerwich were bowled out for 231.
Alex Mason also scored 35 and Benjamin Novis added 27 for Hammerwich.
But Pelsall were bowled out for 83 inside 26.2 overs with Hammerwich pair Hasnain Nawaz and Todd Reeves collecting four wickets apiece.
Wolverhampton also started the season in victorious fashion after winning by 30 runs at Lichfield.
The visitors were first to bat and finished at 211/7 after Louis Walker high-scored for Wolverhampton with 42.
Stuart Fielding responded with 35 for Lichfield but they were unable to make up the deficit as Alexander Jones hit four wickets to help bowl them out for 181.
Elsewhere, Beacon Staffs won a narrow affair at home against Cannock by two wickets.
Cannock opened with the bat after Beacon won the toss and started strongly with Daniel Wood and Usamah Khan both posting 53 apiece.
Gregory Mahlokwana and Andrew Le Feaver scored 26 and 29 respectively, as Cannock took 249 from their 50 overs.
However, Beacon responded impressively, with Mike Brookes registering 73 runs from 99 balls.
Gurjot Singh hit 53 and Oliver Green managed 43 from 39 balls, before Stephen Blews sealed victory with a late five wins from three balls to help them finish with a score of 250/8.
