Walsall will start the final weekend outside of the automatic promotion places after they extended their winless run to 13 games in League Two.

The Saddlers had the chance to move above third-place Bradford City but fell to a 1-0 defeat against Accrington Stanley at Bescot on Saturday.

They could still be automatically promoted, although Bradford will guarantee their place in League One next season with a win against Fleetwood Town at Valley Parade in their final game.

When asked if there was anything he could've done differently, Sadler responded: "Who knows? Maybe it's not the time for that but we're still in with a shout.

"I'm not going to say that it's the way around that we would've wanted it. It's not in our hands which is frustrating because it was there for that to be the case [before the defeat against Accrington].

"But we're still in the hunt and we'll keep fighting until that's that. If that changes then we'll fight after the next thing."

Walsall could still finish third with a draw at Crewe, if Bradford lose against Fleetwood, and Notts County fail to beat league leaders Doncaster Rovers.

As it stands, Walsall will face Salford City in the play-off semi-finals after the Red Devils climbed into seventh with a 4-1 win over Colchester United.

That could still be due to change with sixth-place AFC Wimbledon and 10th-place Colchester separated by just four points.

The Saddlers will drop as low as fifth if they lose at local rivals Crewe and Notts County win their final game.

Doncaster and Port Vale both confirmed promotion to League One last weekend after beating Bradford and Wimbledon respectively in the early kick-offs on Saturday.
