Hednesford Town ended the season with a late winner but results elsewhere meant they just fell short of winning the Northern One West title.

The Pitmen needed to beat Runcorn Linnets on the final day and they managed it with a 92nd minute header from Nathan Blissett.

But Widnes also won 1-0 with a 67th minute finish against Trafford, which secured them the title and meant Hednesford finished second.

Hednesford now face a play-off semi-final against fifth-placed Vauxhall Motors, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday.

Fellow Staffordshire side Chasetown will join them in the play-offs after finishing fourth and they will travel to face Congleton Town.

Chasetown ended their league season with a 1-1 draw at Avro.

The hosts took a 10th minute lead but an own goal three minutes later levelled for Chasetown.

There was nothing to separate the sides for the rest of the fixture as the points were shared.

Elsewhere in the league, Stafford Rangers finished 12th after a goalless draw with Clitheroe.

In the Northern One Midlands, Sporting Khalsa ended the season with late heartbreak in a six-goal thriller.

Although their chances of making the play-offs had already been dashed, Khalsa would have been keen to end the campaign on a high as they hosted Racing Club Warwick.

But it was the visitors that took a commanding 2-0 lead with strikes in the 14th and 20th minute.

Khalsa responded before half-time through James McGrady before making the perfect start to the second half with an equaliser from Simeon Cobourne.

A breath-taking period in the game then saw Callum Dolman put Khalsa ahead in the 51st minute.

That goal looked set to be the winner until Racing Club Warwick snatched an equaliser in the 94th minute to share the points.

Khalsa finished the season sixth, five points outside the play-offs, while Darlaston Town finished seventh following their final day defeat to Hinckley LRFC.

James Rowland gave Darlaston an early lead which they held until the 76th minute, when Hinckley equalised.

Darlaston then suffered a second late blow when the hosts were awarded a penalty, which they converted with just two minutes left of normal time.

Lye Town also tasted defeat on the final day, losing 1-0 at champions Quorn.

Lye finished the campaign third from bottom and have now been relegated, after 25 defeats in 40 games and just six wins to their name.
