The former midfielder stepped into the Albion void left by the sacked Tony Mowbray this week and starting his interim stewardship with a goalless draw at Cardiff, who were condemned to relegation.

Morrison said after the stalemate that he had a full squad to pick from - bar long-term injury victim Josh Maja - and attacking midfielder Swift, who will leave at the end of his deal this summer, was overlooked.

Morrison, whose role under Mowbray was first-team coach, said he 'makes a selection to win games'. There is just one game of the season remaining, at home to relegation-battling Luton Town next weekend.

Asked about Swift's omission, Morrison said: "Yes (it was selection). I had a fully fit squad to pick from. I went with two defenders (Mason Holgate and Semi Ajayi) on the bench. I just felt the attacking players were suitable for the bench.

"I'm playing to win, really. I want that to go over to the squad, that we play to win. That will be my thinking on Saturday."

In his final press conference as head coach just prior to his sacking Mowbray confirmed Swift and fellow attacker Grady Diangana will depart The Hawthorns at the end of their deal.

Defender Semi Ajayi returned from injury for the bench at Cardiff and also sees his deal expire this summer.

Diangana will also move on and was an unused substitute in south Wales.

Midfielder Jayson Molumby returned from a three-match ban and was due to start against the Bluebirds but fell ill on Friday night.
