Tranmere's Sam Finley slapped with 13 match ban for homophobic slur in Walsall clash
A Tranmere Rovers player has been slapped for a 13 game ban for using a homophobic slur in a clash with Walsall back in January.
The midfielder was sent off in the 38th minute of Tranmere's 5-1 defeat at the hands of Walsall for two bookable offences.
But a a separate incident, Sam Finley was alleged to have used abusive or insulting language towards Walsall captain Jamille Matt, namely a homophobic slur.
It came after the pair had exchanged words following a tackle on former Walsall loanee Nathan Lowe.
Finley admitted the charge and the FA found that the incident had constituted an aggravated breach, with Finley having been banned on a previous occasion for using homophobic language towards another player.
He had also been sanctioned for using abusive language back in 2020 - that at the time led to an eight match ban.
This latest incident and subsequent breach has seen him hit with a 13 match suspension, a £2,000 fine and he has been told to undergo mandatory education programme.
