Spaniard Cifuentes is well thought of among the Championship for the work he has done in West London since taking over at Loftus Road in October 2023.

It is reported, however, that the Hoops head coach is growing frustrated with aspects of the role as he nears the end of the second season.

Cifuentes has steered his 15th-placed side clear of relegation on both occasions and very popular among supporters with his body of work in what have at times been difficult circumstances at Loftus Road.

It has been suggested vacancies at Albion and Norwich, after the Baggies dismissed Tony Mowbray on Easter Monday, has put Cifuentes on alert for a possible Championship switch.

It is said the Spaniard has become frustrated with relationships behind the scenes, including that with 27-year-old chief executive Christian Nourry - in place for a little over a year - and director of performance Ben Williams, who the report claims works remotely from overseas.

It is believed Albion chief Bilkul Football are eyeing a move for a younger head coach following the failed appointment of the experienced Mowbray, 61, for a second spell.

Aged 42 and reportedly hungry and ambitious to progress, Cifuentes looks to fit the mould of what chairman Shilen Patel, sporting director Andrew Nestor and Co. are looking for in their second head coach appointment.

Like with former Baggies chief Carlos Corberan, Catalonian-born compatriot Cifuentes only had an amateur playing career before starting his coaching journey in the lower reaches of the Spanish game.

Norwich, Albion's Championship rivals who are floundering in 14th level on points with the Rs, are also looking to appoint having axed Johannes Hoff Thorup this week. Relegated Premier League sides Southampton are hunting for a new boss this summer, with Leicester in a similar position with Ruud van Nistelrooy's position hanging by a thread.

Albion have also been linked with a move for Tottenham coach Ryan Mason. The 33-year-old former Spurs and Hull midfielder was forced to retire in 2018 and has coached in north London since. He has twice been in interim charge, in 2021 and 2023.
