In November 2023, Walsall had succumbed to a 2-0 defeat and sunk to 19th-place in the league.

Fans were calling for his head and it took a second half double from Oisin McEntee at Notts County the following weekend to prevent the fanbase from turning the screw completely.

Fast forward 18 months and so much has changed, but in many ways it's a familiar tale which is unfolding at Walsall.

In three months, Sadler's men have managed to blow a 12-point lead at the top of League Two and are on the brink of falling out of the automatic promotion places altogether.

It was only a short while ago that Saddlers fans would laugh at this vision of doom but if Doncaster beat Salford tonight then that nightmare will become a reality.

Sadler called for a reaction from his players at full-time but his side have been sleepwalking their way into this situation for some time.
