‘It is a great feeling’ - delight for Swann as Chasetown win Staffordshire Senior Cup for first time
Chasetown manager Mark Swann heaped praise on hat-trick hero Joey Butlin whose impressive performance helped the Scholars to their first Staffordshire Senior Cup title.
Chasetown came from behind to beat Rushall Olympic 4-1 at the Bet365 Stadium - the same scoreline that they lost to the Pics by in the Walsall Senior Cup final last season.
Rushall’s Jessy Bavanganga saw red in the 20th-minute, but the Pics took a surprise lead through Theo Williams. However, Chasetown showed great determination to score twice through Butlin on the stroke of half-time before the forward added his third shortly after the break and George Cater completed the scoring.
Boss Swann was delighted with his side who wrote themselves into the history books and ended a lengthy wait for silverware. The win also completed the set of local county cups for the Scholars boss who was over the moon.
“Joey was unbelievable,” said Swann. “He is the best about at this level, maybe the league above. He is a great kid and performs week in week out. We are very close off the pitch as well. Three goals, he needs to do that more.
“It’s great for everybody involved in the football club. It was great to see our president Mick Joiner on the pitch, it brought a bit of a lump to my throat because I know how much he really wanted it.

“Me and Jamie (Hawkins) have been here for four years now and it is about putting your hands on trophies in my eyes, whether it be league or cup. We haven’t won anything until tonight, it is a great feeling.
“That is the hattrick for me too, I got the Birmingham and the Walsall as a player and now the Staffs as a manager which is more important.
“Credit to Rushall last season, they were fantastic and were fluttered with a few pros on loan. But, this season they haven’t had the beauty of bringing them in that they did. We knew a lot of the players and were confident coming into the tie. But, the red card killed the situation. I think we capitalised on it.
“There are a lot of supporters who follow us away and we look at that and it means a lot to us because we know how much it means to them as well. To lift a trophy, having not done for 14 years, and for the first time at this football club, it’s amazing.”
In a memorable night under the lights, Butlin earned himself the man of the match award and match ball for his clinical performance.
But, the hattrick hero was more pleased to have delivered silverware for Chasetown legend Jack Langston.
“It was brilliant, Langy hasn’t won anything at the club since he has been here so it was even better to do it for him.
“It was proper. Before the game I said to Jack ‘we are going to do it for you’ and we did.
“When we went down 1-0 and they had 10-men I always thought we could come back.
“It was quality with the fans.”
