Bradford City had lost 5-4 at Swindon Town and Doncaster Rovers had drawn 1-1 against AFC Wimbledon in the early kick-offs.

The footballing gods had aligned in the Saddlers' favour but they were unable to keep up their end of the bargain.

The current form guide reads that of a team fighting relegation rather than competing for promotion. Two wins in 17 games, winless in 10 and 32 goals conceded since the turn of the year paints a rather ugly, but unfortunately accurate, picture of their catastrophic collapse.

It was another poor performance and the fact that Walsall failed to even register a single attempt on target speaks volumes of the lack of confidence within this team.

Mat Sadler made six changes. Donervon Daniels was surprisingly handed his first league start since November and the decision backfired as the Walsall captain failed to get to grips with the dangerous threat posed by Barrow target man Aaron Pressley.

Pressley could've easily scored a hat-trick in the first half. He opened the scoring inside 22 minutes with a predatory finish inside the box after his initial effort was parried into the six-yard box by the returning Tommy Simkin.

It was disappointing how much space Barrow were afforded on the left. Liam Gordon simply sat off Ben Jackson and the Barrow wing-back was able to pick out Pressley inside the box.
