Mission accomplished for Stafford Rangers as Hednesford Town seal play-offs - round-up

It was mission accomplished for Neil Kitching and Stafford Rangers as Northern Premier West safety was secured.

The Boro scored twice in the second half for a fine 2-0 win at Congleton Town, who look set to finish in the play-offs.

Kitching, brought back for his second spell at Rangers to lift them from the mire in the new year, admitted a fantastic job has been done ahead of schedule with his side now up in 12th after a stunning run of form.

"I'm really, really pleased (to achieve it) with three games to go," Kitching said. "I thought it was probably going to be a little more sticky than that and go to the final game!

"I'm over the moon, it's fantastic. I said to the players that every single one of them in our 13 or 14 games deserve massive credit, they've put their bodies on the line every single game. The form table over that period is play-off form."

John Atherton opened the scoring for the Boro five minutes into the second period and Scott Wara settled nerves by poking home James McQuilkin's corner just after the hour.

There was similar away-day success for Hednesford Town as the Pitmen secured their play-off spot in Northern West with a 2-0 victory at relegation-battling Kidsgrove.

Simeon Maye struck from close range 10 minutes from time to put the seal on three points after Dom McHale had opened the scoring from the penalty spot after hour an hour in Staffordshire.

Gavin Hurren's side continued their response from the shock defeat against Trafford a couple of weeks ago and have put back-to-back wins together to keep the pressure on leaders Widnes, who dropped points with a draw.

With three games left, the Pitmen trail top spot by three points. There is still a tasty derby at Stafford Rangers to come on Easter Monday.

Chasetown racked up a fine 3-1 home win over Newcastle Town to consolidate their play-off place.

The fifth-placed Scholars scored twice in seven second-half minutes to take the game away from Newcastle, who had struck back to equalise before half-time.

George Cater opened the scoring with a scorcher into the top corner on 15 minutes but Oliver Armstrong equalised.

But Chasetown favourite Jack Langston came up trumps after the hour to rifle beyond the goalkeeper before Tom Thorley turned home a loose ball to make the points safe. Mark Swann's men have a five-point buffer in the final play-off spot.

Sporting Khalsa kept their slim chance of a play-off spot alive in Northern Premier Midlands with a 2-1 win at Sutton Coldfield Town.

Ian Rowe's side fought back from an early deficit to win it late through Andre Landell 20 minutes from time. Chay Tilt had fired an immediate equaliser for the visitors in Birmingham.

With three games left, Khalsa in sixth trail Worcester above them by five points.

Darlaston Town hopes were extinguished by a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Coventry Sphinx.

Sphinx struck late in either half to leave Dean Gill's side in seventh but five points adrift of Khalsa after untimely third defeat on the spin.

At the other end of the table Lye Town's relegation is all-but confirmed following a 2-0 home defeat to Boldmere St Michaels.

Boldmere netted the breakthrough five minutes into the second half before a Joe Burroughs own goal late on confirmed the defeat. The Flyers are eight points adrift of safety with three games remaining.
