Aston Villa player ratings vs PSG: Six 7s as Villa battle but concede cruel late goal in Champions League
Jonny Drury rates the Aston Villa players after their 3-1 Champions League defeat at PSG.
Emi Martinez 7
Made big saves early on with PSG well on top, before one almost caught him out and came back off the post. Had no chance with the goals and went on to make another key save in the second half.
Matty Cash 6
Picked up a harsh yellow in the first half, and was given the run around down the right hand side with Villa under the cosh in the opening stages. Put in a hard working display, but was hooked at half time, possibly due to his booking.
Ezri Konsa 6
A big early block and there was plenty of them throughout the game. They came under siege at times as PSG tried to find gaps in the backline. Stood tall and were undone by two top strikes, but late on he dived in as PSG cut inside to bag a key third.
Pau Torres 7
Tight alongside Konsa, with PSG relentless as they dragged the back line this way and that. Big in key blocks, and one in particular late on was a big one.
Lucas Digne 7
Dogged defensive work in both halves, with PSG firing down the flanks. Did get caught a few times in the second half, but then went and made a key tackle in the second half with PSG looking likely to score.
Your Tielemans 7
Had to be right on top of his game in the middle, with PSG dominating the ball for large parts of the evening. Did his job well in what was a massive task. Got forward well, and it was his calm cross that led to Rogers' opener.
Boubacar Kamara 6
More defensive work from the midfielder, who had such a tough task on the evening with the players in the middle of the park. Did a sterling job to keep the home side at bay for large parts of the game.
Morgan Rogers 7
Hardly saw the ball early on but was in the right place at the right time to tuck home the opening goal. Question marks on the wide man for the goal for standing off, and then had Villa's best chances of the second half but was denied.
John McGinn 7
He made the opening goal, with his massive interception and then driving forward before switching the play. Worked so hard on what was a difficult night where Villa put in a major shift without the ball.
Jacob Ramsey 6
Had a tough evening defensively, like a lot of the Villa players did. Early on got caught over the top which almost led to a goal. Worked hard though and did his job, and tried to get in on the act on the rare occasion Villa did get forward.
Marcus Rashford 6
Took a while to get into it, with PSG having the large proportion of possession throughout the early stages. Did come into it and played his hand in the goal. Did got into certain areas in the second half but they came to nothing.
