The Baggies slumped to a second straight 1-0 defeat and slipped out of the Championship play-off places as goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith's howler helped Sunderland to victory at The Hawthorns.
Mowbray's hosts had more of the play and worked far more dangerous positions than their fourth-placed visitors but once again came up short with a lack of conviction in the final third.
Despite that, the head coach felt there were improvements in some attacking departments and pointed to the drastic change in style that is being strived for having taken over from Carlos Corberan more than two months ago.
