And Robins boss Liam Manning has told supporters to enjoy the ride in a pursuit of a first Championship play-off place since the 2007/2008 season.

City and Middlesbrough profited from Albion and Coventry slips over the weekend to climb into the top six.

Manning's men begin Tuesday's visit of Tony Mowbray's Baggies with a three-point advantage which they could double to land a potentially killer blow on the visitors' play-off aspirations.

First-half goals from Ross McCrorie and Nakhi Wells put the Ashton Gate hosts in the driving seat against 10th-placed Watford, who head to The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Manning told Bristol Live: "Too right, enjoy it. It's been a long while since the club were in that position so again, credit to the players and the staff for the work that's gone into it.

"It's been an eventful 18 months right? In terms of everything we've gone through but the progress is quite clear over the course of the season and that's my job, keep the lads focused.

"Of course, around that, you want the fans to be excited, you want them to turn up, show the energy they've shown today and enjoy it.

"I have to say, I've really enjoyed watching so much of our football this season and long may it continue, starting on Tuesday."

Manning's side have lost just once in nine games on their late run to gatecrash the top six, winning five of those. They were comfortably beaten at The Hawthorns just before Christmas in what proved to be Carlos Corberan's final game at the helm. Albion prevailed thanks to a first-half double from winger Mikey Johnston.

Bristol City could be further boosted for the visit of Albion by a return for creative midfield star Scott Twine. Twine was a high-profile purchase from Burnley last summer and has netted six times but missed out against Watford due to injury. Boss Manning, who managed MK Dons and Oxford his move to Bristol City, hinted Twine could return against the Baggies.
