The Albion midfielder was an unused substitute in last weekend's last-gasp defeat at Norwich, where boss Tony Mowbray opted to rest Price following a calf complaint on international duty.

The Baggies were unhappy Price completed two lots of 90 minutes in friendlies despite reporting the muscle injury after the first fixture.

But the January signing trained in full this week and is pushing for a recall against the Black Cats as sixth hosts fourth at The Hawthorns.

Mowbray said: "Isaac’s trained perfectly the last few days so no problems. We are just managing his calf situation that he had while he was away on international duty.

"As I said at the time, we felt it was better to miss one than start one and miss seven. Hopefully he is going to be available for the run in and we can get the benefit of that."

Price has been a big hit for Albion since he moved from Standard Liege in Belgium midway through the January transfer window.

Mowbray also has right-back Darnell Furlong back to call upon against Regis Le Bris's visitors after Furlong completed a three-match suspension.

Albion's other longer-term injury victims remained sidelined despite a couple having stepped up their rehabilitation in recent weeks. Jed Wallace and Semi Ajayi have stepped up fitness work after muscle problems.

Striker and top goalscorer Josh Maja, however, is set to be out until the potential of play-off football - should Albion secure sixth. Maja is yet to kick a ball under Mowbray.

"I haven’t seen (Wallace and Ajayi) so I don’t know," the head coach added. "That’s a medical question but they are not with our group."

On Furlong's return he said: "He gives us another option. He brings experience to the team. I do think our best backline is a very good defensive unit in this league and can keep the team in the competition (for play-offs)."
