You only have to go back as far as Saturday to find a prime example. On the cusp of a costly defeat, Taylor Allen curled a marvellous free-kick into the top corner to rescue a point against promotion rivals AFC Wimbledon at Bescot.

Admittedly, wins have been at a premium, with just two from their last 14 games in League Two. They remain at the league summit although it feels as if they're clinging onto top spot rather than reasserting their authority over the chasing pack.

It's not that Walsall are necessarily losing games. They've been beaten just twice in 10 but the volume of draws (seven since the start of February) has ultimately seen their seemingly unassailable 12-point lead chopped down to just a single point.

Fortunately, Walsall have another opportunity to put that right. They maintained the six-point buffer between themselves and Wimbledon by snatching a vital point and travel to another promotion rival in the form of Doncaster Rovers this evening.
