Luke Molyneux opened the scoring in the 16th-minute when the Doncaster wide man drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Taylor Allen equalised within two minutes to register his ninth goal of the season, after guiding Oisin McEntee's cross into the far corner with a flicked header.
Substitute Billy Sharp restored Doncaster's lead five minutes from time with a deft flick, but Danny Johnson emerged from the bench to equalise at the death.
Walsall gained an extra point on second-place Bradford City, after they were beaten 2-0 by Port Vale, while the gap between top spot and fourth remains at five points.
Mat Sadler made two changes to the team which began the Saddlers' 1-1 draw against AFC Wimbledon at Bescot on Saturday.
Evan Weir was recalled to the defence and Levi Amantchi was handed his first Walsall start, with Charlie Lakin and Johnson dropping to the bench.

Jordan Gibson forced an early save from Sam Hornby when his powerful effort was expertly turned behind by the Walsall goalkeeper.
Walsall had two chances in quick succession when Allen curled his free-kick wide and Nathan Asiimwe guided a header narrowly off target.
But Doncaster hit the front just moments later as Molyneux picked the ball up just outside the box and drove a fierce low effort into the bottom corner just past the quarter-hour mark.
Allen, who stepped up into midfield, produced an immediate response by scoring for the second game in succession to get Walsall back on level terms just two minutes later.
McEntee made a rampaging run down the right and Allen flicked the deftest of headers beyond the reach of Sharman-Lowe and into the far corner.
Walsall settled into their shape again after getting back on level terms and forced Doncaster to predominantly keep possession inside their own defensive third.

Asiimwe continued to hound Jack Senior with a twisting run but his eventual left-footed cross was glanced wide by the head of Amantchi.
McEntee was a rock at the back again and started a promising attack with an excellent interception. Jamie Jellis slotted a lovely reverse pass into the path of Allen but his low effort on his weaker right foot was diverted behind.
Asiimwe lifted another inviting cross into the danger area from the right wing but Amantchi was unable to keep his header down.
Veteran striker Billy Sharp was introduced midway into the second half and latched on to a ball into the inside right channel which he blazed wide of the target.
Whereas Doncaster made attacking changes earlier in the half, Sadler took until the 80th-minute to use his bench with the introduction of Albert Adomah.
And it was Sharp who put the hosts ahead when he got across his marker to send a delightful flick beyond the reach of Hornby after Doncaster breached Walsall down the left.
Sadler immediately introduced Connor Barrett and Johnson and the latter equalised in the final minute when he headed home from a matter of yards in front of the Walsall supporters after Jamille Matt's header was only parried.
Next, Walsall welcome local rivals and fellow promotion contenders Port Vale to Bescot in the lunch-time kick-off on Saturday.
