Non-league previews: Harriers boss Brown praises his side's character when they have been 'slaughtered'

Kidderminster Harriers boss Phil Brown has praised his side's "immense strength of character" to climb to second in the National League North standings.

Just more than a month ago, Kidderminster had suffered back-to-back defeats and sat outside the play-off places - and at one point were 10 points adrift from top spot.

But, after an incredible eight-game unbeaten run with seven wins, Harriers have given themselves a chance to return to the top of the table tomorrow.

Ahead of hosting Peterborough Sports to Aggborough, boss Brown said he is not looking at the standings.

He said: "I am not interested in the league table and haven't been all season. I am thinking, what does it mean? Being top in January or February means nothing. Being top in late-April and May is the most important part.

"We are 40 games in, I know what I have in my team and the DNA and it is when your backs are against the walls, you are being hunted, wrongly treated or slaughtered by people outside the club, the players have shown an immense strength of character and got us to where we are.

"There are six big cup finals to go.

"I am delighted with the application of the players because we have been together for more than a year and a few of us had the relegation which wasn't nice.

"We have come into a campaign where there are a lot of good teams, I really respect the level of this level.

"I haven't taken anything for granted, but I realise my experience and where I have come from and I think where Kidderminster harriers are concerned, wherever we are playing, we are always there to be shot at. But, it is something I have desperately been trying to get the players to understand and once you do, you deal with it much better.

"We now have a group of players who understand what it takes to win a game of football at this level, and understanding who we are and what we are, and that is the most pleasing part."

Ashley Hemmings has netted eight goals in Kidderminster's last five league games and has 24 for the season so far.

And, Brown was keen to highlight the contributions of his attacking players.

"The emphasis on the creativity of the game has been our big forte, and a lot of people can have a go at certain players at our players with what they do in front of goal, but as far as I am concerned we have a front three that is dangerous, can create, run and be physical," the Harriers boss added. "The most important part of the quality of the front three and it has been a recipe for the bit of success we have had and where we are in the league.

"There are six games to go and if I can keep them in the rich vein of form that they are in then we have a chance."
