Championship play-off race: Why promotion is not the 'be all and end all' for West Brom

And every Albion fan will also want to see Albion win the play-offs and get back to the top flight after a four year absence. If someone says they don't want that, I would say they are lying.

However, as the business end of the season kicks in and the race for the play-off shoot-out really hots up, there are other caveats to potential Premier League promotion for Albion.

In recent seasons, the riches of getting back to the top flight really have been vital for Albion. The longer they remained in the Championship under the previous ownership, the financial situation became more perilous.

Since dropping out of the Premier League in 2021, trying to get back to the promised land has been essential. Had they been able to achieve it, the finances and riches that come with promotion would have massively aided the club under the Lai regime.

As it happened, they didn't achieve promotion and the financial situation became worse, until thankfully Shilen Patel and Bilkul Football stepped in.
