The 21-year-old, who joined the club from Feyenoord back in 2020, has spent time out on loan at Bristol Rovers over recent seasons, gaining valuable first team experience.

But last summer he became part of Unai Emery's first team plans - and has featured 16 times this season, with Emery happy to call upon the Dutch youngster amid a defensive crisis.

His appearances for Villa, including in the recent victory over Club Brugge in their last 16 Champions League first leg clash, have led to him attracting interest from clubs back in his homeland.

Earlier this year, Dutch giants Ajax were said to be keen on a potential move for the 21-year-old and are reportedly monitoring his situation.

The defender, who is away on international duty with the Netherlands under 21s addressed questions surrounding his future in an interview with Voetbal International.

The youngster insisted that information on his future will come out soon.

He explained: "I have seen it pass by, yes,.

“It’s great that a big club like Ajax is interested in you. Yes, with respect to Aston Villa, I am still under contract with them. My future will soon be more coming out.

“Right now, I’m just happy at Aston Villa. We will come to a decision together.”
