The 29-year-old three time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, made the move to Villa Park from PSG, after Unai Emery long held an interest in the star.

He has made a huge impact at Villa Park, with his latest contribution coming courtesy of an eleven minute brace in their 3-0 win over Club Brugge on Wednesday night.

The 6-1 aggregate victory took Asensio's tally to seven since his arrival - and helped set up a mouth watering quarter final tie with his parent club.

It has been questioned whether Asensio can feature against PSG. In other competitions, such as the FA Cup, if you have featured for your parent club and then moved to another club, you are cup tied and cannot play for them later in the competition.

However, that rule will not apply for Asensio, who will have the opportunity to make another big impact against his employers in the last eight.

UEFA has an official ruling on loan related moves, that forbids clubs from exercising 'any influence whatsoever over the players that another club may (or may not) field in a match'.

It has happened in the Champions League in the last, when Thibaut Courtois played against Chelsea in the semi-finals  in 2014, while on loan at Atletico Madrid.

And it has happened to Villa already this season.

The club signed Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus last summer, before immediately sending him out on loan to Italian side Bologna.

Villa drew Bologna in the league phase, and the winger came on as a substitute in the clash, that ended in a 2-0 win for Villa.
