Like at Leeds a couple of weeks ago, Tony Mowbray's men travelled to an automatic promotion chasing side and gave as good as they got in one of the biggest signs yet of Albion progressing to Mowbray's way of thinking.

We address some talking points in the debrief.

Diamond Diakite

It was only the Mali midfielder's second start since early January - and it was in an unfamiliar centre-back role in a back three.

The summer signing was exceptional, though. He put in an almost flawless display and really helped ease a mini-defensive availability crisis with Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi and Darnell Furlong missing.

It was almost like a re-run of his impressive form between Christmas and New Year where Diakite first gave a consistent show of his qualities.

Mowbray talked up Diakite's impact and admitted he has not been able to play the Malian as much as he would have liked, citing the need for the quality of his other midfield options and at times a bit of a language barrier, but Diakite has really shown he can be relied on.

Swift's timely reminder

Albion's number 10 could have departed the club on deadline day with Championship strugglers Derby's approach.
