Albion had lodged an official appeal with the Football Association claiming wrongful dismissal for the right-back's red card in first-half stoppage time against the Rs.

But the appeal has been knocked back by the governing body and Furlong will miss three matches, starting at Burnley on Tuesday and including Hull at home on Saturday and the trip to Norwich at the end of this month following the international break.

Boss Tony Mowbray had been optimistic of the appeal following the "really harsh" decision from referee Adam Herczeg to dismiss the experienced defender.

Replays at the time proved inconclusive for the off-the-ball incident.

Albion introduced Mason Holgate from half-time to see out the victory against QPR and Everton loanee Holgate is likely to continue at right-back against Burnley on Tuesday night.

Furlong's availability has been one of the full-back's strengths during recent years for the Baggies. The 29-year-old barely missed a game under former boss Carlos Corberan.

Albion's defensive options are limited with Furlong out for three games. Holgate's cover at right-back means head coach Mowbray has fewer alternatives to call on in the heart of defence.
