Baggie Boy's apprenticeship is at an end
James Griffiths (7-0) four-round apprenticeship has come to an end as he makes the step up to six at the Hangar Venue in Wolverhampton on March 8 on BCB Promotions' March Madness show, live on BoxNation.
The 'Baggie Boy', from Wombourne, has built up a solid seven-fight unbeaten start to life in the paid ranks and feels now is the perfect time to take on the longer distance.
Entering his third year, the BCB-trained middleweight has made plenty of improvement, which he showed in a rematch with the durable Paul Cummings last time out with a shutout points win showcasing his fitness as well as skill.
"I'm feeling so happy to be back after a few months out of the ring," said Griffiths. "It's been good to be back in the gym with the lads, and even though I always feel a bit flat at the start of camp, I'm more than ready to go now.
"I always stay fit. Even if I'm not in the gym, I get my runs in, and I know I've sparred six, so I feel confident, especially after my last fight.
"I felt like I had plenty of energy left in the tank. With me working night shifts, I can't get to the track sessions, but my treadmill sessions are very intense, and I've got in some more great sparring."
The show is being broadcast by the online platform BoxNation, and the stacked card, which features several Queensbury Promotions signed talents, gives boxers like Griffiths a chance to impress a nationwide audience. The 29-year-old is patient and isn't worrying too much about all the excitement outside the ring.
"I don't want to put too much pressure on myself," he added. "I know there will be a lot of eyes on me, but I'm not going to focus on that. I will go at my pace and do the right things to win.
"I'm happy to box another couple of six-rounders after this, and then we will see what opportunities are available.
"A Midlands title shot, if it comes, would be great; boxing for any title on a big show is something I want, and to get the credit for the hard work I put in."
Unbeaten duo Bradley Thompson (6-0) and Ben Fail (8-0) are both in action, along with the professional debut of Leamington Spa heavyweight Joe Bourne. Ollie Cooper (9-0) , Bloxwich's Ryan Woolridge (11-0), Brandon Bethell (4-1), James Griffiths (7-0), Mia Holland (1-0), Jack Finlan (1-0), and Jack Wyn Roberts complete the card.
Final remaining tickets are available now priced £45 general admission and £80 VIP ringside from the boxers directly or by emailing info@bcb-promotions.com
