Bavington fight cancelled after Ngamba medical exam reveals issue
Kirstie Bavington has had her historic fight with Cindy Ngamba cancelled.
The Black Country boxing ace – the EBU welterweight champion – was due to face debutant Ngamba in a non-title bout at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday night.
However, the fight has now been pulled due to a medical issue for Ngamba, who became the first member of the Refugee Olympic Team to win a medal at the Olympic Games last summer.
A statement from promoters Boxxer on social media read: “Cindy Ngamba will not be making her professional debut on Friday night after a pre-fight medical examination revealed an issue requiring further investigation.
"The health and safety of fighters remains the highest priority, and Cindy will undergo further tests in the coming days.”
Undisputed-chasing Lauren Price headlines the bill when she faces Natasha Jonas.
Welterweight Price puts her WBA title on the line against WBC and IBF holder Jonas in London.
The pair will headline the all-female card on the eve of International Women’s Day. And a victory for either fighter could see them fight the winner of Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan for an undisputed welterweight clash in the future.
