Ashworth, who is regarded as one of the best in his field, departed United after just 156 days in the role.
Last week it was revealed his departure from the club had cost United £4m.
Ashworth, who made his name as a technical director during a highly successful period at West Brom, went on to enjoy fruitful periods with the FA, Brighton and Newcastle United, before going on to Old Trafford.
Now it has emerged that following his departure from the Manchester club, he has landed a new role in the West Midlands - in a different sport.
On Monday evening, The Times revealed that Ashworth has been handed an advisory role at Warwickshire Cricket Club.
He already had a relationship with the club, having joined their cricket audit committee back in 2021.
That role involved an oversight on their elite teams and high performance structure.
Now Ashworth, in his new position, will work with the county as a voluntary advisor on a range of matters including high performance, using his experience gained in football.
