The Saddlers were able to extend their lead at the League Two summit to seven points although they've gone five league games without a win.
Jamille Matt moved on to double figures with his opener four minutes after the break, but Robbie McKenzie's 30-yard screamer salvaged a point for Gillingham.
Here, we reflect on the main talking points from another draw at Bescot.
Confidence low
Walsall were better in the first half, without being brilliant. They just don't seem to be playing with the same fluency as before, and the patterns of play, which were previously so successful, have become predictable and less effective.
It felt that very little could stop Connor Barrett earlier in the season but things don't appear to be clicking for him at the moment. The same can be said for Ryan Stirk, and even Liam Gordon looked to be running on empty.
