Rather poignantly, it was 365 days exactly since he was karted off the pitch in tears at Portman Road as his Achilles - the one he had not previously ruptured - snapped in Suffolk.

This latest comeback had been delayed by a good couple of months after a frustrating hamstring setback in October. Then-Baggies boss Carlos Corberan stressed Dike will be better for the muscle issue.

Prior to kick-off Dike was quick off the team bus with a beaming smile and keen to find out directions to the dressing room at Solihull Moors' home patch. The 24-year-old's time was limited against Newcastle's youngsters on Monday night, so he was keen as ever to show he was in good shape.

Dike, leaner to the eye than his previous bulky frame, did not touch the ball too often in the cameo but the giant frontman looked sharp in the bursts he did have both in and out of possession.
