The man who carried Wolves' hopes on the pitch for 14 years is now 56 years a Wulfrunian, since first moving to the city to sign a 12-month contract at Molineux.

His status on the field remains legendary - 194 goals, 485 appearances and two League Cups.

But his legacy has only grown since then with his unselfish work to support former players, his charitable exploits and the 'exceptional impact' he has had on the city and its people.

For all that, there are few as deserving to be given the freedom of the city than Richards.

Whether it is at Molineux on a matchday or picking up something for dinner in the supermarket, he is always gracious with his time - even if he is still coming to terms with his legend status at the age of 74.
