The Saints approached Hobbs as one of a number of candidates to head up a new role in their footballing structure.

But the Express & Star understands Hobbs, who is in the 10th year of his time at Wolves and became sporting director in 2022, has no interest in the role.

He is expected to stay at the club, as Wolves look to add two more players to their squad in the January transfer window.

Southampton owner Dragan Solak is seeking a new appointment within his football management team after chairman Henrik Kraft stepped down.

Jason Wilcox, who left for Manchester United last year, was never replaced in his director of football role and the Saints have been considering candidates.

Owners Sport Republic are revamping their structure and did contact Hobbs about a job that would oversee all of their clubs, including Turkish club Goztepe and Ligue 2 club Valenciennes.

However, the Express & Star understands Hobbs will not be taking the job and will stay at Wolves.
