Academy product winger Philogene, 22, only returned to Villa Park in the summer in a £13.5m switch from Hull but started just three times in the first half of the campaign.
He has been moved on to Premier League rivals Ipswich in a deal that will see Villa earn an initial £20m with a further £3m in add-ons.
Boss Unai Emery pushed for Philogene's return after the trickster spent just one season away from the club on a permanent basis with the Championship Tigers.
But Villa this week completed the £21m signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Donyell Malen and the Dutchman, who mostly plays on the right, is seen as a replacement for Philogene.
Emery said earlier this week that Philogene's exit to top flight relegation battlers Ipswich was the best deal for Villa.
Villa climbed to seventh in the Premier League, level on points with Manchester City, with Wednesday's hard-fought 1-0 victory at struggling Everton.
