Sam Hornby - 6

Challenging - Perhaps felt he should've kept out Gustav Lindgren's opener and conceded four goals from Peterborough's five on target.

David Okagbue - 6

Unfortunate - Conceded a penalty albeit controversially and had to shift into the centre of the back-line following Daniels' injury. Made a key intervention at 3-1 to prevent Lindgren from tapping home Motherville's low centre.

Donervon Daniels - 6

Blow - Lasted just 23 minutes on his first start in over a month after he was forced off with a calf injury.

Evan Weir - 6

Varied - Provided a set piece threat to set-up Browne's header which struck the post but got caught ball watching for Boro's fourth to leave Malik Mothersille unmarked.

Brandon Comley - 6

Bypassed - Struggled to assert his authority in the midfield battle and was bullied by Bradley Ihionvien at the start of his solo run to set-up Mothersille for Boro's fourth.

Rico Browne - 6

Struggled - Had a difficult evening with Mothersille proving a tricky customer. Comfortably beaten in the air in the build-up to Peterborough's third but did hit the post with a header.

Oisin McEntee - 6

Replaced - Skewed an effort wide in the first half and had to drop into defence after starting the game in midfield. Replaced by Connor Barrett just past the hour.

Charlie Lakin - 7

Threat - Posed the biggest threat going forward for Walsall and came close on a number of occasions only to be denied by a string of excellent saves from Nicholas Bilokapic.

Taylor Allen - 7

Positive - Served as a productive attacking outlet especially after the break as he started to occupy more central positions. Replaced just past the hour with Sadler perhaps mindful of MK Dons on the weekend.

Albert Adomah - 6

Glimpses - Played a key role in the build-up to Walsall's first after chasing Lakin's ball into the channel and squaring for Johnson. Came close after the break when his flicked finish brushed off the post.

Danny Johnson - 6

Mixed - Marked his 75th appearance for the club with his third goal in the EFL Trophy this term but squandered two glorious chances either side of half-time.

Substitutes

Jamie Jellis (for Daniels, 23) - 7

Energetic - Tracked back a handful of times to protect Browne and created a golden opportunity for Johnson with a low feed after a darting run to the by-line.

Connor Barrett (for McEntee, 63) - 6

Outlet - Offered an attacking outlet down the right although he was arguably weak in the challenge on Ihionvien for Boro's final goal.

Liam Gordon (for Allen, 63) - 6

Flashes - Showed glimpses of his quality down the left although Walsall's best chances in the closing stages came down the right.

Jamille Matt (for Johnson, 72) - 6

Cameo - Introduced to lead a late comeback charge but Peterborough netted a fourth soon after to put the seal on the win.

Josh Gordon (for Browne, 72) - 7

Bright - Looked lively after marking his return from a four-month absence with an 18-minute cameo. Forced Bilokapic into action twice before scoring a late consolation.

Unused: Simkin, Maher.
