How much confidence can Peterborough take from their performance at Everton?

Our defence this season has been woeful. We've got the worst defensive record in League Two. In our last two games, we've gone to Wrexham and lost 1-0 to a late goal, and really you've lost 1-0 at Everton barring a 98th-minute penalty.

So there have been some improving signs. Darren Ferguson has been saying ahead of the Walsall game that it's something to build on now. Maybe in the past two games we've had the hand break on, particularly at Everton, which was one of my minor frustrations. I would've liked us to have to seen us maybe got for it in the last 20 minutes.

Now, Ferguson is saying now is the time that he wants to take the hand break off and we need to start getting the balance right between being more solid at the back than we have been but also not losing the threat up front.

We've scored the same amount of goals as Birmingham but we've let in two more than Shrewsbury Town so it's clear where our problems are.

Who are Peterborough's main dangermen?

I actually think he is going to go relatively strong. He has been talking about the importance of this competition particularly for us now having the season that we've had.

We're not going to be going for the play-offs which is usually what we're talking about when we've been in this league. He is sort of saying that if we can get to the Wembley final and retain the trophy then all of a sudden the season doesn't look so bad.

Kwame Poku would've been the one and our forward line suffers massively without him. Cian Hayes has been a bright spark and if we were going to do anything at Everton then it would've been through him.

He'd either play left wing or left wing-back because we've been playing with a back-three recently. He has pace, likes to cut inside and have a shot, so he has really taken on the mantle from Poku while he has been injured.

Hector Kyprianou in the midfield is one of our star players. Lots of talks about a Championship move this month because he is out of contract in the summer.

Is there any pressure on Darren Ferguson despite his legendary status at Peterborough?

You have got some knee jerk reactions calling for Ferguson to go but I'd say they're in the minority. The general consensus is that everyone knows what went wrong.

In the summer, Peterborough lost Ephron Mason-Clark, Josh Knight, Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows. They're all gone and you're starting a lot of young players especially our back-line which is full of 18, 19 and 20-year-olds.

Players who coming into the season had had a handful of league matches between them. When it came to January, Ferguson came out and said that they got it wrong in the summer so now we're desperately looking around for an experienced centre-half and some experience in the defence.

Ferguson has got a lot of credit in the bank and a major mistake has been made in recruitment. So there is a sense that it's going to be a tough season, we're going to get through it and go again in the summer.

Predictions?

I'm a bit nervous. With how the league campaign looks like it is going to finish, with a pretty grim end to the season, I do want to do well in this competition.

My hope is that Walsall rest players because the League Two title is much important but I could see this going all the way to penalties.

The confidence that Walsall are going to come in with, assuming they'll play a semi-strong side. But I will predict a Peterborough win on penalties but I'm expecting a really tough game."
