Swiss coach Wicky, 47, is in advanced discussions to take over as head coach at The Hawthorns with the club targeting an appointment in advance of Saturday's home league clash against Stoke.

Brunt, along with Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, are likely to have ended their caretaker period with Saturday's 5-1 FA Cup third round exit at Premier League Bournemouth in which the Baggies took an early lead through Caleb Taylor.

The Baggies may have been leapfrogged into sixth by rivals Blackburn, who play a game in hand on Wednesday, come their return to league action on Saturday, but playing legend Brunt is optimistic the side have been left in a decent position for the new man to deliver on the play-off target.

"Yeah look if that's the case then that's my job done," Brunt said when asked if happy to hand back the reins.

"I was only here until told otherwise. If the new guy is reported to be coming in this week then good luck to him.

"The club is in a relatively good position in the league and that was probably the ultimate aim over the last couple of weeks - to try to leave the team in a decent place to look forward and push on for the rest of the season, so hopefully we've done that."

The interim trio have overseen five Albion fixtures, four in league action and the Cup exit, since Carlos Corberan's Christmas Eve departure.

The Championship outings, including three away from home, brought a return of five points from a possible 12 to remain sixth as things stand.

Brunt's permanent role is loans manager at The Hawthorns as he oversees players, especially young talents, with their deals away from the club. He assists with academy coaching when required and admits the period at the helm has been an intense whirlwind.

Asked if he will assist Wicky when any appointment is confirmed, the Northern Irishman said: "It's not really something we've spoken about. I was just asked to help out for as long as needs be.

"I'm sure I'll be back to my desk job when and if the new man comes in. We'll see what happens."
