Matt moved onto a century of goals in the Football League with his brace in Walsall's 5-1 rout over Tranmere Rovers at Bescot on Saturday.

Walsall set a club record with an eighth successive league win to climb 13 points clear at the League Two summit and extend their unbeaten league run to 15 games.

When asked the what the secret behind Walsall's transformation under Sadler, 35-year-old Matt provided intriguing insight into the Saddlers' recipe for success.

Matt, who has scored nine goals so far this season, said: "My answer comes to the power of the squad and the power of the team. Everyone comes in and the banter is flying around but then that brings people out of their shell.

"People feel comfortable around each other so we're able to hold each other accountable because of that. If someone isn't pulling their weight then you can say, 'come on, you know you're better than that'.

"But it's done in a respectful way and it doesn't matter whether if it's me at 35 or Lowey at aged 19. We're all able to speak to each other and take it respectfully.

"Everyone has bought into that. The gaffer has created that environment and it's enjoyable because you come into work with a smile in your face.

"So that's a big secret behind why we're working so hard for each other."
