Non-league preview: Khalsa looking to extend unbeaten run against league-leaders Quorn

Sporting Khalsa will look to extend their unbeaten run to six Northern One Midlands games tomorrow when they welcome league leaders Quorn.

Boss Ian Rowe said his side were “fortunate” to come away with a point against Hinckley LRFC midweek, but was pleased to say that his Khalsa have come out of an injury crisis phase.

Khalsa sit firmly inside the play-offs in fourth, and are hoping to stretch their impressive run by overcoming Quorn who were beaten for the first time this season last weekend.

“They lost their unbeaten record last weekend, so now they are going to be a little bit of a wounded animal and look to bounce back from that defeat,” said boss Rowe.

“It is a game we all look forward to, they beat us 1-0 at their place, but if we are honest with ourselves, the least we deserved was a draw.

“I would have liked them to still come to us unbeaten. They are so far clear, they would have to have a catastrophic loss of form to not win the league.

“Now they have been beaten, it shows one that it can happen, but that they will want to bounce back. It will be a tough game, they are not where they are for no reason.

“But, on our day we are more than a match for anybody in this league.”

The Khalsa boss is also wary of those below them in the standings, as he aims to secure a play-off spot this season.

Speaking on Khalsa’s recent form, Rowe added: “We have taken 10 points from the last five games, ideally I would have wanted 15, but I am being greedy.

“At the same time, we were in a bad spell prior to that and we have gone okay since.

“We have just got to keep going, because the advantage we had two months ago in terms of games in hand, teams have now got over us.

“If those teams win them, then we will be just outside the play-offs. But, having the games in hand and winning them, like we have found out, is neither here nor there.”

Meanwhile, strugglers Lye Town welcome Racing Club Warwick, and Darlaston Town go to Anstey Nomads whose pitch was underwater earlier this week and gained national attention after the club’s chairman paddled around the ground in a canoe.

Elsewhere, in the Northern One West, Stafford Rangers host Bootle, Chasetown entertain Vauxhall Motors and Hednesford Town visit Wythenshawe after welcoming experienced goalkeeper Tony Breeden from Spalding United.
