Chris Hussey focused on helping ambitious Hednesford Town
Experienced former Football League stalwart Chris Hussey is determined to help ambitious Hednesford Town move in the right direction after penning a deal.
The 36-year-old left-sided defender has teamed up with Pitmen boss Gavin Hurren once again having played under the Pitmen manager at former club Stratford Town.
Hussey enjoyed impressive success in his professional playing career. The London-born defender started as a two-time promotion winner at AFC Wimbledon before he was picked up by Coventry. He went on to enjoy promotion success with Bury, Sheffield United and Cheltenham Town, where he was in the League Two team of the season in 2020/21.
The former Walsall defender checked in from former club Stratford, where he played under Hurren and was a caretaker boss, and is the latest high-profile Keys Park recruit a day after experienced goalkeeper Tony Breeden signed.
"This is a club going in the right direction and I wanted to be a part of it," Hussey said of his move.
"I played for the gaffer last season, but after speaking with Craig (Gwilt) the chairman and how he wants to drive the club, I've been at those levels and hopefully I can help to do so.
"It's just about getting the best out of everybody and getting the best out of myself.
"I've been playing left-back, left centre-half and left wing-back most of my career. Towards the latter stages I was at Walsall and played left of a back three, same at Stockport. Hopefully I can get selected and help in any which way I can.
"I've been brought in to help the team be successful, but part of my role with how I've educated myself is that people helped me out when I was younger, I love to help people, if I can help 0.5 or one per cent then that's more than where people were at the start."
Hussey's playing career spanned near-600 professional appearances. Fifth-placed Hednesford's Northern Premier West clash at Wythenshawe on Saturday has been postponed due to freezing conditions.
