Talks between the two clubs are ongoing with Corberan expected to make a final decision in the coming hours.

While the Baggies have not given up hope the 41-year-old could remain with them, there is an acknowledgement the lure of joining Valencia - a club situated just 20 miles from his hometown of Cheste - may prove too tempting to turn down.

Valencia sit 19th in La Liga and have identified Corberan as their No.1 candidate after sacking Ruben Baraja on Monday.

Corberan, who was appointed Albion boss in October 2022, has a release clause in his contract worth more than £3million.

The Spaniard, who previously took Huddersfield to the Championship play-off final, took charge at The Hawthorns when the club were in the relegation zone but quickly revived their fortunes, despite working on a very tight budget.

Albion reached the play-offs last season and are currently outside the top six on goal difference after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Corberan’s work has earned him plenty of admirers and he was recently under consideration by both Wolves and Southampton when they made managerial changes.

But it is Valencia who have made the first serious move to prise him away from The Hawthorns.
