Winger Mikey Johnston stole the headlines with his first goals since the £3million summer move from Celtic as two first half efforts did for the visiting Robins.
We look into some of the clash's other talking points in the debrief.
Chaos versus control
Johnston's match-winning moments came in a 10-minute spell just before half-time to give the interval scoreline a flattering look from the Baggies' perspective.
Up until the opening goal it was a bit of a basketball match at The Hawthorns - not Carlos Corberan's favourite style.
Liam Manning's visitors were well in the game, even at 1-0, but in the second half the hosts ensured that was not the case.
Albion shut out the second period in highly impressive style. City toiled badly but Albion played a big role in that. It was not a case of shut up shop for 2-0 either, which has been a frustration at times.
The Baggies could and should have scored more and they did so in such a comfortable manner while giving away few, if any, sniffs at their goal. It was little wonder Corberan said he enjoyed the second period, despite no further goals, much more.
