Republic of Ireland international winger Johnston, Albion's marquee summer signing, struck twice before half-time as Carlos Corberan's men recorded a comfortable 2-0 home victory over the Robins before Christmas.

It had been an 18-game wait for Johnston to get off the mark for goals or assists this season. Sunday's victory was an eighth start and while the winger admitted to "relief" after breaking his duck, he feels his performance levels have been there regardless.

Corberan had admitted he was more pleased with Johnston and Albion's controlled second half despite the two-goal first period, in which Bristol City looked in the match.

And Johnston said: "It was a relief, I think I've been close quite a few times and it seems to happen, doesn't it? When you score another one comes.
