West Brom duo both train as boss hopeful of Boxing Day return

Albion have been boosted by the ahead-of-schedule return to contention for Callum Styles and Karlan Grant.

Left-back Styles and attacker Grant were given little chance of featuring at Derby County on Boxing Day but the duo trained well for the Baggies on Monday morning and could return to the side at Pride Park.

Boss Carlos Corberan suggested Styles was further along the road to recovery but the progress both have made from hamstring complaints, which forced them out of Sunday's win over Bristol City, is a significant boost for the head coach ahead amid the run of five games in 14 days.

Corberan said on Monday afternoon: "Both have trained today which is something very positive, probably we didn't expect it.

"But the level of progress from both have helped them complete training today, which is a positive thing. Let's see how they react but probably they are options.

"Let's see whether with both, or one of them, or neither of them. But I saw them well enough to think that they can be involved."

Asked specifically about the defensive and left-back options, he added: "I think Styles will be around in the next game - but it doesn't mean that if Styles is there than (Gianluca) Frabotta cannot play, because they are totally different players.

"It is always good to have possibilities, I prefer those."

Corberan's squad recovered and trained on Monday, the day after a return to winning ways in the 2-0 home victory over Bristol City.

Christmas Eve is a day off for the players to enjoy time with their families before work and travel ahead of the Boxing Day clash in the east Midlands - against a home side in 16th-placed Derby who have almost 48 hours more preparation time having played last Friday night.

Corberan made his disagreement towards the scheduling clear but was in chipper mood when describing Monday's training session.

He said: "It was very important to recover a positive feeling after a defeat, the Watford game was painful for me, the staff and players.

"I can tell you that today they made me very happy because I saw one of the best training (sessions) of the season. The players who were not involved yesterday, or on the bench, made a level of training that made me feel very, very proud."
