Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins receives SJA award for heroic Euro 2024 moment
Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins has won the Sports Journalist Association President's award for the 'best sporting moment' of 2024.
Watkins scored a memorable 90th-minute winner in England's 2-1 victory over Netherlands in the semi-finals to lead his nation into the Euro 2024 final in the summer.
And the 28-year-old says he still gets "goosebumps" reflecting on that moment now.
He told Sky Sports: "It was an unbelievable moment and one that I'll definitely cherish forever.
"Looking back at it, I still get goosebumps now and so do my family and friends. It was nice that they were there to see it first hand and just to have that memory.
Watkins has netted five times for Villa this season and a further 14 across all competitions in 2024 and admitted he feels as if he is entering his peak years.
"Personally I've come on a great journey to get to this point and I feel like I'm in my peak years now," he continued.
"I'm just enjoying every moment, trying to push on to the next thing and trying to accomplish the next goal which is to always improve myself and help the team do better in the league and in the Champions League this season."
