Hall made his Championship debut aged just 17 and made 40 appearances for Birmingham City in the second-tier.

But a succession of hamstring injuries over the past 18 months derailed his exciting breakthrough and reduced him to just nine appearances last term.

The Birmingham loanee made his first starts for Walsall against MK Dons and Fulham under-21s in September but suffered a back injury in the 1-0 win over the latter.

Mat Sadler has gradually eased him back into the fold and has been rewarded with assists from the bench against Grimsby Town and Crewe Alexandra in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old opened his goal scoring account on only his third start for the Saddlers as they finished top spot in their EFL Trophy group and is now hoping to push on at Bescot.

He said: "It's been a lot of ups and downs. Inconsistent with my game time and it's been quite difficult but I've had good people around to keep me level headed and keep pushing hard.

"It's hard because you see everyone else your age pushing on, not getting injured and getting rewarded.

"That's hard watching from the side lines. It's nice to have that belief in myself and just my body really. Not having to hold back and be worried about getting injured and pulling up.

"That's been the most important thing for me over the past few months. Getting my confidence back in my body because I knew technically and on the ball I would be alright."
