Amber Hughes opened the scoring for manager Dan McNamara’s side just after the hour-mark, before assisting Quigley at the death to take the three points in a 2-1 victory, writes Thomas Gibson.

McNamara was full of praise for his team’s performance in big moments: “The girls deserve massive credit because I thought we saw a side of them that we haven't seen them in the last few weeks because we have had so much of the ball.

"I know the girls will never give up - you talk about big moments, you’ve got Amber Hughes out wide hanging the ball up for one of the big game players in Racheal Quigley.

“We have brought her in for a reason and in that moment, she is calm, she knows where the goal is.”

The opener came after an Anna Morphet set-piece caused a scramble in the area and Hughes fired home from close-range. However, 10 minutes later Feds’ Chantelle Johnson equalised.

“To come away with the three points is huge - there are not many teams that win here," added McNamara. “I always felt it was going to go one way or the other, and I couldn’t decide which way that was and fortunately it’s gone for us, I'm really pleased.”

Tammi George made her 150th appearance for Wolves as McNamara made six changes to the teamsheet.

Sporting Khalsa failed to escape the relegation zone as they lost 3-1 to Burnley, despite Annabel Davies’ goal.

West Brom and Stourbridge failed to score in their losses as they struggle to break away from the lower end of the table.

The Glassgirls are only three points ahead of Khalsa after losing 3-0 to Derby County, while Albion are eighth after a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

In the Women’s Super League, Villa’s goalless draw with Manchester United earned them a key point to stay off the bottom of the division.

Birmingham City remain top of the Championship after they won 2-1 away at London City Lionesses. Centre-backs Neve Herron and Gemma Lawley’s goals meant Blues went three points clear at the top.

Kidderminster Harriers and Lye Town both won 4-2 in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

Bethany Gallagher and Millie Rogers netted two each as Harriers' win against Port Vale kept the pressure on league leaders Shifnal Town, who are only three points ahead.

Third-placed Lye are four points off top with a game in hand after goals from Lucie Dedicoat, Caitlyn Walton, Britanee Lote and Lucy Davies helped them beat Burton Albion.

Halesowen Town are flying high at the top of West Midlands League Division One South, despite Kirsty Roberts scoring in their 1-1 draw with Long Itchington. Both sides remain unbeaten this season.

In Division One North, Lichfield City hammered Eccleshall 4-1 thanks to Dolcie Sims, Courtney Dilger, Shelbie Cartwright and Loren Cooper, while Walsall Wood suffered their first league loss this season, 2-1 against Rugby Town.

And Hednesford Town overcame Newcastle Town 2-0 on the road, with Elisha Davis and Hazzana Parnell on target.

Elsewhere, Walsall beat AFC Telford United 2-1 to progress past the Division One Cup second round.
