The club are still without a win in 10 games and now face newly-promoted Southampton in a relegation six-pointer, with both teams occupying 19th and 20th in the Premier League.

O'Neil's position may not survive another defeat but the under pressure boss cut a calm figure in his pre-match press conference and insisted his full focus is on delivering a victory for Wolves.

"I don’t ask the club for any backing or support, I’m very comfortable in this seat or on the side of the pitch and understand it's the nature of the job," O'Neil said.

"I’m very comfortable in my own skin and the work which is done here. Since the moment I’ve been here I’ve given absolutely everything.

"There have been challenges that I've always faced full on, there's never been any shying away or blaming anybody else.
