The 23-year-old from Aldridge has recently returned to the pool after a year away from competition and met the European Championship qualification time in the SM6 200m medley at the recent British Para-swimming International Meet.

But she claims her sport’s governing body, “haven’t been there for me the last couple of years”.

“I felt I had something to prove to British Swimming,” Simmonds said. “I wanted to prove them wrong and that I am still there and still in with a chance to qualify for the Europeans.”
