Stourbridge weathered a first-half storm to secure their fourth victory in a row and keep hold of third place in National Two North.

Opting to play into the teeth of a gale first, Stour put in an excellent defensive performance to hold Otley to just an 8-5 half-time lead.

Two second-half tries then saw the home side over the line with a 25-8 win, although Stour squandered several opportunities to score the fourth bonus-point try.

The win leaves Stour nine points behind second-placed Sedgley Park and two points ahead of Caldy in fourth. Next up is a trip to Sale, 10th.

In National Three Midlands, Old Halesonians stayed second with a low-scoring 10-6 victory away at Longton.

Illness and injury saw 17-year-old James Keane make his debut at scrum-half.

An early Ollie Rayner penalty gave Hales the lead and then nine minutes in a typical forward run from Jay Martin gained 25 yards.

Skipper Richie Taylor picked up and drove over for the only try of the game which Rayner duly converted.

Hales dominated possession for the next 30 minutes but failed to score, going in 10-0 up at half-time. Longton scored two penalties in the second half before the visitors closed out the game.

The victory leaves Hales 12 points behind leaders Hinckley and three points ahead of third-placed Scunthorpe. Next up is a home tie against Newport Salop.

In Midlands Two West North, Kidderminster lost 29-15 away at Old Saltleians, who themselves have lost once all season.

The results leaves Kidder in fifth, ahead of their home match with Old Yardleians, who are sixth, this Saturday.

Stourbridge Lions lost 32-14 to Veseyans, leaving them eighth ahead of this weekend's trip to Camp Hill.

In Midlands Three West North, Wednesbury, Bloxwich and Burntwood all failed to score in respective heavy defeats to Tamworth, Newcastle and Ludlow.

Cannock lost 24-10 to Edwardians, leaving them sixth ahead of their home tie with Ludlow this weekend.

In Midlands Four West North, third-place Rugeley smashed Aston Old Edwardians 44-0 ahead of their trip to table-toppers Barton-under-Needwood.

Eighth-placed Aldridge lost 10-0 at Telford Hornets and host second-placed Uttoxeter on Saturday.
